Derveni, Korinthia, Greece

Derveni, Korinthia, Greece located between the villages of Petalou and Lygia. It belonged to the Municipality of Evrostini which today has been unified with the city of Xylokastro. It is a place that combines sea and mountain and this is because while it is located by the sea, you can be on the mountain in 20'. The 2011 census showed about 1,100 inhabitants. The centralized policy of the respective governments and the plan of downsizing brought negative results for the place. Public services and banks have been closed and the place is currently based purely on private initiatives and the few survivors who are struggling. Nevertheless , it is a pole of attraction especially for the summer season due to its advantageous location and the clear sea. Landscapes and sunsets that have nothing to envy from those of our islands are located just 2 hours from Athens and 1 hour from Patras.

 

Although Derveni relies heavily on agricultural activity, there is business activity and one can find restaurants, patisseries, bakeries, cafe-bars, fast-food, mini-markets, super-market, hairdressers, gift items , bookstores, technical offices, butchers, shoe stores and funeral homes. The unified Municipality of Xylokastro - Evrostini has its branch in the old location of the town hall of Evrostini while in the village there are Citizens' Service Center and Hellenic Post Office branches. The village has also  a Municipal Conservatory which provides music education and degrees recognized by the state. As far as concern culture, the village has an active association with many and worthy activities.

 

In recent years, the trend towards rooms for rent through a well-known platform has created several opportunities in Derveni and a lot of people choose Derveni for their summer vacations and short getaways.

 

As far aas concern transportation, there is bus service and Suburban Railway while in the center of Derveni there is also a taxi station.
